I first want to thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and read what I have written. My name is Jesús Saenz, born in El Paso, Texas in 1972 moved to the Los Angeles suburb of Montebello, California at the age of three. Not long after I began my career in mischief. By the time I graduated from high school, I had tried almost every drug available as long as I didn’t have to inject it… needles worried me. I was saved by God’s grace when I was 22 and have been attending Calvary Chapel Montebello since.
What’s with the title of your blog? Soul deSaenz is a name I came up with while talking to my friend Mario. The “soul” comes from Soul Skaters, which is the name I was going to use for the group I wanted to get together at church with all the skaters, but it never materialized. I kept the name for myself and had Mario design a logo which I then made stickers of as well as getting it tattooed on my calf. The tattoo is permanent, my return to skateboarding has been a bumpy road, to say the least.
deSaenz, pronounced like designs is a play on words using my last name, Saenz, which means saint and the fact that I have an interest in art and may eventually display some of my artwork. This blog will be for the purpose of sharing my opinions regarding just about everything. I tend to have many interests including roasting coffee, smoking cigars, collecting Bibles, skateboarding, movies, art, poetry, music, film (not movies), literature, theology, philosophy… I hope you stick around, there may be something I write about that may eventually be of interest to you. And please, please do not be afraid to comment about anything! Always feel free to contact me about anything! God Bless You
Hey, I found your site through Elshaddai Edwards’ blog. I noticed you had a link to the preterist site and American Vision. I too am a reformed partial-pret. I also almost all of your interests, including cigars, skateboarding (moreso back in the day), art, poetry, lit, etc. You don’t have to publish this, I was just surprised that we shared a lot of the same convictions and interests and wanted to say “hi”
We should have coffee some day, I live in Downey, Ca. not far from where you are at.
Nice to see Calvary Chapel Blogger, I attend Praise Chapel in Paramount.
Take care,
Robert
Robert,

Jesus, love your blog. I came across it quite by accident. To make a long story short, I have been trying to find a quality leather bound wide margin study bible in NIV translation, and in my search I came across your blog. Keep up the good work. I cannot believe that these publishing companies cannot do it right. Either the pages are too thin, or it doesn’t come in a leather edition, etc. Appreciate the commentaries on highlighting and pens for bibles…to people like us this stuff is important, but where else can you find an intellegent discussion on this but here? I’m on the east coast, not far from West Point, but I’ve been to Downey, Ca during the 80’s. All the best.
Metalhead,
check out this blog, he has great suggestions on how to convert your favorite bible to high quality leather bible. http://jmarkbertrand.typepad.com/bibledesign/
Hola Jesus! Thanks again for helping me with with my I-Pod! I’m starting to get the hang of it, finally. What’s this about roasting coffee? Do you roast your own? I was at the new Whole Foods Market in Pasadena today, and they were roasting coffee, but you couldn’t smell it, because they were somehow containing the smoke. The guy I was with- from my office- tried roasting his own with a special roaster that he bought, then went to the shower. When he came out of the shower, the Pasadena fire department was knocking on the door. The smoke detectors were set off, and they automatically contacted the Fire Dep’t! Nice Blog, by the way! If you get a chance, could you give me some feedback on the Constance Cumbey (and spin-offs) sites, and the incredible stuff they uncover. Thanks again. Your friend, Will
Robert, thanks for your suggestion. Did not realize there were so many people as interested in bible design as I am!
I noticed you collect bibles and I actually am kind of a bible student myself. I currently am using a combination of a wide margin King james (for note taking so I really appreciated the post on that) and also a thompson chain reference bible which I find great for word study. I also recently picked up a Remnant Study Bible with chain references I find it invaluable… You can find that one here http://www.ellenwhitestudybible.com there is a video there which I liked.
Great play on words. Our family business of hair styling was renamed to Hair d’Saenz. Some peeps still can’t get the nz sound right and inject an “e” between the n & z – so they pronounce the word De Sigh Ness. LOL, even though we try to make it obvious. You don’t hear anyone mispronounce Lutz as Lah Tess or Munz as Mun Ness or Heinz as High Ness. It seems that only Saenz causes most peeps dyslexia! Good luck with the skating, I do some myself & God Bless. E.
